Crafting Compelling Characters – Online Writing Course
A weekly 6-session course to be delivered online via Zoom

About the Course:
What comes first: character or story?
In this course, early and emerging writers will discover that if you create a character you will create a story.
Through discussion, activities and inspiring writing exercises, we will learn tools and techniques for building complex, vivid characters; deepening characterisation; uncovering all-important character motivations; choosing the best point of view; and writing convincing dialogue.
We will breathe life into our characters and also let them surprise us.
You will learn:
- How creating a character can create a story
- Tools for building characters
- Techniques for uncovering character motivations
- Which point of view to choose for your character
- How to write convincing dialogue
Weekly 1.5 hour classes, over six weeks to be delivered via Zoom
What you will need:
Laptop or desktop computer (with microphone and camera) will work best for this course plus Internet access and pen and paper. Tablet/phones are not ideal they could still be used if necessary
