How to start your story – online course
How do we write about the challenges of 2020?
Through discussion, activities and writing exercises, we will discover how to draw from the world around us as well as mining memory for ideas and inspiration.
We will learn how beginnings and endings work together, and tools and techniques for starting stories and building characters.
A weekly 6-session course to be delivered online via Zoom
21st October – 25th November
Cost: $60 for the whole program

- tips for avoiding common pitfalls in story openings
- how beginnings and endings work together
- tools for forming compelling characters
- reflecting on current times as well as mining memories for story ideas
About the facilitator:
Tania Chandler is a writer, writing teacher and editor. Her novels Please Don’t Leave Me Here and Dead in The Water have been published in Australia and internationally, selected for reading programs and shortlisted for awards. Tania’s third novel, All That I Remember About Dean Cola, is due for publication in 2021.
What you will need:
Laptop or desktop computer (with microphone and camera) will work best for this course plus Internet access and pen and paper. Tablet/phones are not ideal they could still be used if necessary
